# Credentials

*Credentials* are data elements used to verify the identity of a user, device, or system. They act as a digital key that proves who you are before granting access to an application, network, or database. Common types of credentials include usernames and passwords, API keys, and tokens. To set up integrations within Rewst, you'll frequently be asked to enter manually credentials from the partner tool to make the connection. The Rewst Agent can't do this part of the setup process for you.

## The Credentials menu

Find a list of all credentials in Rewst by navigating to the **Credentials** section of the left side menu. Use the **Filter** and **Search** options at the top right of the page to find your desired credential if the list is lengthy.

The menu will display information about each credential, broken down into columns:

* **Name** - The name you gave the Credential when you entered it into Rewst
* **Auth Method** - The authentication method of the credential
* **Used By** - Which integration is actively using this credential in Rewst
* **Details** - Tells you what each login connects to and whether it's still working — never the secret itself
* **Last Rotated** - The date that the credential was last entered into Rewst, or the date of creation if the credential never expires
* **Expires** - This column will be blank if the credential doesn't expire, or will otherwise display the expiration date
* **Actions** - Three buttons, **Edit**, **Test**, and **Delete**, let you manage the credential's information, integrity, and presence in Rewst

## Add a credential

There are two ways to add a new credential in Rewst.&#x20;

1. Navigate to the **Credentials** menu. Click **New Credential**. Follow the prompts in the dialog that appears to enter the information and save. Later, when you set up an integration, choose this credential from the **Credential** drop-down selector in the integration setup dialog.<br>

2. Navigate to the **Integrations** menu. Click on your desired integration to begin setup. Follow the prompts in the dialog that appears to enter the information. When prompted, select **+ Create New Credential** from the **Credential** drop-down selector, and enter the credential information from the partner tool to set up the integration and save the credential.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.rewst.help/rewst-documentation/documentation/credentials.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
