# Crates
## What is a Crate?
Essentially, a *Crate* is a prebuilt automation. A Rewst Crate contains all the pieces that power the automation: workflows, triggers, and often forms. These are usually built and curated by the Rewst team or from our community to facilitate easy deployment. Many of our Crates depend on your first setting up relevant integrations
## Why use Crates?
Prebuilt automations are made by the Rewst team. We've tested them and created them for optimal time savings, with your most common tooling and processes in mind. Starting out with Crates is the second quickest way to start seeing benefit from Rewst, after asking the [Rewst Agent](/rewst-documentation/documentation/rewst-agent.md) to build for you.
## Find and use Crates in Rewst’s Marketplace

You'll find our ever-growing collection of Crates in our Crate Marketplace. Access it in the left side menu of the platform by navigating to **Marketplace > Crates**.

In the Crate Marketplace screen, you can:
* Search for Crates
* See a list of all Crates that you have installed via **My Crates**
* Sort all Crates by **Alphabetical** order, **Recently Added**, or **Most Popular**
* Filter Crates by a variety of filters:
* **Type** - workflows, forms, or apps
* **Integration** - check off one or more integrations which you have already installed in your Rewst instance
* **Triggers** - form, manual, or webhook
* **Categories** - check off one or more of the Rewst preset categories

Click **View Details** on the Crate tile for your desired Crate to open up its Crate Details page, which breaks down the purpose, features, and installation requirements of the Crate.
Click **Open Crate (View-only)** to preview the Crate's workflows, forms, and other components without installing anything, or click **Install** to install the Crate into your Rewst instance.
Each Crate page opens with its identifier, shown in the format `CRATE / crate-id`, and who published it, followed by the Crate's name and a thumbnail image. Below the thumbnail, you can see which version you're currently viewing, the latest available version, when the Crate was last updated, and a description of what the Crate does.
### Packing Slip
The **Packing Slip** panel on the right lists everything the Crate will add to your environment.
* The **Contents** section totals each asset type the Crate includes, such as workflows, forms, apps, automation assets, and agents.
* The **Included assets** section lists each asset by name under those same categories, so you can see exactly what a Crate contributes before you install it. Once you've installed the Crate, this collection of assets will turn into clickable links that take you directly to that item in Rewst.
* The **Integrations** section lists which integrations the Crate requires, each marked **Required** if the Crate depends on it to run. \

## Install a Crate
Click **Install** on your desired Crate tile in Marketplace to begin the process. Some Crates have unique settings that you set during the installation process. If your Crate is one of these, you’ll be prompted to follow the steps on your screen before installation begins.
Depending on the size of the Crate, installation may take a few minutes. Leave your browser window open without navigating away from your Rewst platform while the process completes. A confirmation dialog will appear when process is complete. If your Crate experienced failures or difficulties while installing, you'll see a warning message.

After installing a Crate, always check its performance to ensure it's functioning as expected. Once done, you can test the Crate by completing a related task and watching for the Crate's success.

## Synced versus unsynced Crates

Were you a Rewst Classic customer? Unsyncing and modifying Crates is now much simpler. Just ask the Rewst Agent to do it for you and follow along to answer any questions it might have.

When you install a Crate, you’re creating synchronized clones of the Crate components for your own use. Crates are maintained and updated by the Rewst team. When something in the underlying technology changes, your Crate seamlessly keeps working, as long as it’s synced. This minimizes your overhead and ensures that you're always using the latest, most stable version.
By default, all Crates are synced when you install them. However, you have the option to unsync a Crate after you install it. If you unsync a Crate, you’ll be responsible for updating it on your own, and won’t benefit from the automatic maintenance of synced Crates. Unsyncing a Crate does allow you to customize the contents of that Crate, such as altered triggers or workflows, to better suit your particular business needs.
### Why modify Crates?
Modifying a Crate allows you to:
* Insert steps before or after the main workflow to meet unique requirements. Add custom integration functionality to Crates that don't include your integration.
* Remove unnecessary actions from a Crate to speed up its run load.
* Use Crates as a template base for creating more complex automations.
* Integrate Crates as subworkflows into broader workflows.
* Adapt triggers or forms. Customize user input experiences without affecting the core automation.
### How to tell if a workflow is synced and from a Crate
In the total workflows list, applicable workflows will have a purple Crate icon next to their names in the list. If that workflow has been modified after installation from the Crate, the icon will turn orange.
In the Workflow Builder, the same icon will appear to the right of the name of the workflow. Click on it to view the Crates where it is used.
